Voice over VSAT

VSAT
Very Small Aperture Terminal satellite links are a satellite dish that high speed data can be transmitted over for various applications, including voice. Transmitted to a satellite and down to a landing station somewhere in the world. The landing point will usually be somewhere well connected to allow for the signal transmitted to other networks.

In a remote area that needs connectivity the chances are that the site needs more than just voice connectivity so the site may already have a VSAT system installed. If so then the running voice over this system would be trivial and cost effective.
Voice is best transported over the Frame Relay protocol when transmitted over a satellite link though frame relay was not designed with this type of transmission in mind it works well because of built in quality of service protocols. When it is transported over the satellite it is important that the data is not delayed, otherwise a meaningful conversation will be impossible....
