Paper 1 - First Draft

Mike Miles writes in his essay Stop Blaming Kids and TV about the influence adults, especially parents, have on children. While many people in America blame a child’s behavior on violent TV shows and flashy commercials, Males argues that these claims “bear little relation to real behavior.” Violence levels in Japan and Europe are much lower than in America yet kids and teens are exposed to the similar media types. The same holds true for different parts of the U.S. Since television is obviously not the real problem we should look at what is, the parents.
The average American child will witness… 200,000 acts of TV violence before the age of eighteen yet they fail to note all the real life violence, drugs, and sex they will be exposed to in their own homes.
