Our perception of what is being said when someone is trying to communicate something to us is greatly influenced by several factors. And, to make matters even more complicated, these factors normally have nothing to do with the intended meaning of the message. Theory teaches that only about 20 to 30 percent of spoken communication is understood by the receiver. Now imagine you have to relay a piece of very important information. This lack of understanding, so to speak, is a direct consequence of the so called perception flaws which are the factors that cause problems in our understanding of what is being conveyed to us.
