The theme for Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is maturing into adulthood. The main character of this novel is Alice. Throughout the story she has conflicts with many of the characters along with herself. Her main conflict is to return home from Wonderland and to become an adult. As Alice learns a great deal about herself with each new encounter in wonderland, she begins to realize that these experiences of growing up distort her previously stable self-image.
Alice in wonderland is a coming of age story. It is the growth of Alice from an irresponsible, undisciplined child to a wise responsible young woman. For example when Alice went to reach for a jar of jam and the label read “poison” she knew well enough to avoid it, her challenges in adulthood would be far more complex, reading not only labels but also situations and people. The theme with Alice growing and shrinking into different sizes could reflect the ups and downs of adolescence with young people sometimes feeling ad...
