Vermont



Just a glance at the flag of Vermont and you get the idea of what kind of place this

state is. The beautiful green mountains, the many forests, the lakes, and even the dairy

cows all contribute to the economy and rich culture that is Vermont.

There are many interesting facts about Vermont. It’s nickname, Green Mountain State,

came from French explorers who traveled near what is now Vermont. They saw the

mountains and named them “les monts verts” or the green mountains. The name was

adopted by state officials in 1777. The population of Vermont ranks 48th among all of the

states. There are 593,740 people who live in the state. New Hampshire, New York, and

Massachusetts are neighbors of Vermont. Located in central Vermont, the capitol is

Montpelier and the largest city is Burlington. Sites like the marble exhibit and the
