Use literary techniques in Monkey's Paw

It is a dark and dreary night. As midnight approaches, the lights begin to flicker. The wind bursts the window open as a loud scream echoes through the house. Suddenly, a flash of light fills the room, and all is silent and deadened. This scene is typical in W.W. Jacob’s writing. William Wymark Jacobs, a prolific British author, has a talent for short stories that entail horror and fear. He sets most of his stories in a familiar environment from his childhood, such as the riverside or the sea. He uses this comfortable scene to bring humor into his writing and to portray mystery and the supernatural. Through this, he has become one of the best horror storywriters of the twentieth century. His short story, “The Monkey’s Paw,” displays his ability to strike terror into the hearts of people.
