Difference between New England and Chesapeake Regions
Throughout the 1600’s, mostly people of English origin settled in the New England and the Chesapeake regions of North America. By the 1700‘s, it became clear that two distinct areas had developed increasingly different societies. Economic factors, climate, geographical differences, and religious influences played a major role in the social and cultural division of New England and the Chesapeake regions.

Religion split’s the two regions, creating a parallel between freedom and stiff structure. The New England colonies became somewhat of haven for religious outcasts and people wanting religious freedom. In the Chesapeake region, the Anglican church was established and taxes were to be paid to support it.
