Urban environmental problems

Cities, centers of human activity, are the engines of development and economic growth. Rapid urbanization can create a range of environmental problems that impact on social, cultural and economic aspects of human life.

The first web page “Urban Environmental Problems”, which represents part of the book “World Resources 1996-1997” analyzes the physical and human factors that diversify urban environmental problems in different parts of the world. The objectives of the report are to review and summarize the influencing variables that will support future research. The variables are: an urban area’ average income level; a city’s geographic location and climate; a city’s size and the rate of growth; capabilities of local governments; state of municipal infrastructure.
