Unpractical Ethics: The Singer Approach

Singer’s argument:
1. It is fine to kill a non-rational and non-functional member of society
2. A fetus is neither rational nor functional member of society
Therefore, it is fine to terminate the pregnancy of a fetus.
Counter argument:
1. A fetus has just as much of a claim to life as a human being.
2. A fetus has no ability to object to the termination of his/her life.
3. According to Singer, it is wrong to kill a human being without their consent.
Therefore, it is wrong to kill a fetus.
