Opening Statement

Good morning (afternoon) Mr. Chairman, honoured guests, ladies and gentlemen.




The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has agreed that the international community has slandered North Korea in its comments made in April of 1998. The international delegation criticized North Korea’s human rights record. Our state believes in communism and that private ownership of property is not allowed. This system that we have has several advantages in which many social depravities and moral injustices do not occur. North Korea does not have problems found in many Western countries such as striking labour unions and social improprieties such as are found between the rich and the poor. Although Western countries discuss the “democracy” of their countries, these same countries are trying to DICTATE what standards we are to conform to. This is a double standard.
