Unethical Communication Behaviors

EVALUATE THE SPEECHES OF OTHERS

In this segment I am going to outline unethical communication behaviors.
I. FAILING TO PREPARE ADEQUATELY
1a. Using insufficient research (speaker does not know what he or she is talking about.
1b. Not meeting logical standards of proof.
II. SACRIFICING CONVICTIONS IN ADAPTING AN AUDIENCE
2a. Pandering: telling an audience what they want to hear.
To give a further example: Many people believe that former Governor Mario Cuomo of New York State is a good example. His political advisors told him that the voters favored the death penalty. Cuomo, however, did not support the death penalty. He was willing to speak for hours explaining his opposition and steadfastly refused to support a death penalty bill in anyway. His refusal helped cost him an election.
III. APPEARING TO BE WHAT ONE IS NOT: INSINCERITY
