Gloria Steinem was a major influence of the women’s movement in the 1960’s. Perhaps, one of the most influential woman activists of all time. Having herself experienced the depravation that women suffered, she realized that her rights in society were unjust. Using her past experiences, Gloria helped create a more equal society for women generations to come. She used the media, politics, and literature to influence a change in women’s rights in the United Sates. The change that she created would end up evolving in to the rights and equality between the sexes that we have today.

Steinem’s use of the media through Ms. magazine would greatly help further the movement. By the summer of 1970 every major national magazine had done its cover story on feminism (1).
