U.S Attorneys Required to Seek Maximum Sentence

In Washington, The Justice Department created a new policy in which federal prosecutors are obligated to enforce the maximum punishment for crimes. This decision reversed the policy the Clinton administration had established. Congress has placed restrictions on court judges to quit using old federal guidelines. Congress has also been examining more than ever the judge?s sentencing to make sure they have not been too lenient. Many people disagree with Congresses new ruling, and feel like this policy places to many limits on prosecutors? discretion and on plea bargains.
