Two Nations, White and Black, Separate, Hostile, and Unequal

The main point of the book, Two Nations, Black and White, Separate, Hostile Unequal is that racism will not just go away, it is getting better as time goes on but will still be there tomorrow. And despite all of our efforts to increase the understanding of Americans and expand opportunities, black and white Americans still lead very separate lives marked by tension and hostility. Andrew Hacker even says that race has been an American obsession since the Europeans came and made savages work. But who has the right to treat another American different then himself because of color, religion, age or gender? Why are Black Americans who are Americans still labeled as aliens in the only land they have ever known? "America was colonized and settled with the idea that it would be an extension of Europe," Hacker said. "This was intended to be a white country. This means that America was founded to be a racist country. Whiteness was to be the paramount characteristic."
