Two main characters in novel A Lesson Before Dying

A Lesson Before Dying, written by Ernest Gaines is a wonderful book. The two main characters are Grant Wiggins and Jefferson, two black men. Action takes place in the 1940s, when discrimination of African Americans in the U.S. was widely spread. This leads Jefferson to be sentenced to death by electrocution for no reason. Jefferson was unfairly blamed for killing a storekeeper Mr. Grope. Also, Jefferson was called a hog by the defense lawyer. This definitely caused main complication in his character during the last few months of his life. This essay discuss the most obvious differences between the two main characters of this book and the lessons they learnt at the very end of Jefferson’s short and miserable life.
