Television Violence and American Children
Watching television is the entertainment that most American people prefer. Television can be a great influence in raising value systems and shaping behavior. Unfortunately, much of today’s television programming is violent. Violent programs on television lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs, and parents are responsible for their children. The responsibility is not only from parents but society also. Therefore, President Clinton signed a Telecommunications Act in 1996. This act required any television thirteen inches or larger to contain a V-Chip which allows parents to block material that the Parental Advisory System (PAS) considers inappropriate for children (“Children”3). The best thing is that parents should refuse to let their children see shows known to be violent, and it is time to warn parents not to let television set to look after their children.
