Truth of the Dirty Work

Mops…brooms…laundry baskets. Who usually sells these items on television commercials? Of course it would not be men, so it would obviously be women. When was the last time an advertisement for any cleaning supplies ever featured a man? One would probably conclude that men are not a part of household cleaning. This shows one of the many stereotypes that the media, especially television, portrays to be a reality. Men are seldom shown using cleaning supplies, taking care of children, cooking, or doing laundry. Commercials often stereotype women to be the only ones who clean their homes.
Most individuals featured in commercials with cleaning products are women in their thirties or early forties. In all the commercials selling Clorox Bathroom Cleaners, Clorox Floor Cleaners, Lysol products, and Oust Air Sanitizer, the women were in that exact age range.
