Triumphs of Beowulf

The epic Beowulf, depicts the heroism of a noble warrior against his adversaries. When the monks recorded the epic in 700 AD, they added Christian values. During the Old English period, scopes would tell the Anglo-Saxon story to educate the young and inspire the old when going into battle. Beowulf occurs in sixth and seventh century Denmark, when the Anglo-Saxons controlled England from 450 to 1066 AD. Beowulf’s loyalty to the people of Geatland, the influence of wyrd on his actions and his camaraderie to travel to Sweden to save King Hrothgar and his kingdom from Grendel proves that he represents a true epic hero.
