Trifles: Not Always Small and Insignificant
In Susan Glaspell’s, “Trifles” Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Wright had various reasons for not telling the men about the bird that they had found. Mrs. Wright felt guilty about not being nicer to Minnie. They thought that the men would not believe them about the evidence- it would simply be another trifle. In addition the women were standing up for their sex.
