Trevino

Trevino transitioned from being a young man with a confused identity, to a Chicano militant with hatred towards the United States, to someone who reconciled their hatred and awoke to direct major television shows. As a young man, he understood what it was to be a minority. He had been called a “dirty Mexican” and singled out for speaking Spanish, he hung out with the drop outs. He then decided that he wanted to become the “ideal” Mexican model student, that he wanted to fit into American society. He left his “Mexicanness” behind to become more American and even left most of his original friends. He then did better in school, yet still felt as the ugly duckling among his fellow white students. His first transition if occurred when he had his first ‘Chicano handshake”, but it wasn’t until his reading of the book, North of Mexico, that Trevino grew his hatred for everything American.
