Transportation: East vs. West

East St Lluis sits on one side of the Mississippi River, while (West) St. Louis sits on the other. With both cities so close together it's amazing how different their transportation systems have developed. Both started with railroads and boats and progressed to planes, metros and buses.
For St Louis in (around 1800s) river travel has been huge: it allowed them (St. Louis industry) too ship goods as ell as people (Transportation).
