Transmission Media

The first layer of the OSI model is the physical layer. The physical layer deals with the many different methods of transmitting a signal from one place to another. Due to the variety of transmission media and network wiring methods, selecting the most appropriate media can be confusing. Often the question is asked, "What is the optimal cost-effective solution?" The following explains the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of cabling that one would look at when trying to decide what is best for the situation.
