Transgenic Organisms

A transgenic organism contains stably integrated recombinant DNA in all its cells. In other words, the organism has a new piece of DNA spliced into a chromosome in each of its cells. This "new piece" of DNA typically contains a gene that was obtained from another organism, and which was modified so that it would be expressed in the new organism. A transgenic organism can even possess DNA from another organism of the same species. The inserted gene can be called the transgene.
Normally the person that discovers that there is a transgenic organism has the rightful ownership to that organism. There are certain breeches of the rules but most of the time it is the finder that can claim full responsibility of that particular organism.
