TRAFFIC STOP INSTRUCTIONS: FOR MOTORISTS


The following are instructions on how to conduct your-self, and help the police officer complete his/her duties. I have developed this guide to help YOU, the motorist, understand why you might be stopped by a police officer. Also, I will advise you on how you should be treated at the scene of the traffic stop. It’s important for you to understand what to expect when a police officer stops you. Police officers realize that this experience might be a significant and emotional event in your life. The officer will complete all necessary business, and release you as soon as possible. Depending on whether a citation is issued, this process will last fifteen minutes or less. Also, upon contesting a citation, you have the right to compliment or complain about a police officer’s actions towards you during a traffic stop.
