Topic: To discuss the implications of raising a family in a single parent, female headed household. This is to include defining the traditional family and nontraditional families and their perspectives.

Target Audience: The target audience will be family planning workers and community leaders.


During the later half of the twentieth century, society has witnessed great atrocities and remarkable accomplishments. The American family is one such institution that has witnessed both. We have seen the decline in the traditional family institution and the rise of a new type of family unit, the nontraditional family. The change from the traditional to the new nontraditional family style has been a long and painful process that has left many scars on the faces of the ones caught in its aftermath. Before we can exam the nontraditional family, we must first understand what the traditional family is.
