Total Opposites
Loneliness and companionship are the total opposites of each other, and so are George and Lennie. But they do share one thing in common; they both are very lonely and need each other for companionship. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, loneliness is a major feeling of most of the characters. Each of the characters compromises their loneliness by finding some sort of companionship. It is this feeling of loneliness and compromise that creates the conflict that we see in this novel.
“ The first man was small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp strong features…. Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man shapeless of face and pales eyes. (2)” George and Lennie are the complete opposites of each other. They only share one quality that joined them together; they are xboth lonely.
