Topic: Identification of a struggling reader.

Let me start off by explaining and answering two questions. “ What is a read

aloud? And “ How can a read aloud be used to deepen the comprehension of a struggling

reader?

Let me start by answering the first question. A read aloud is when a teacher reads

and the students listen without seeing a text. Also the teacher addresses a specific focus

or strategy and the teacher models fluency, expression and strategies.

The second question using read aloud to comprehend a struggling reader could be

used to identify the students in your class who are struggling. The teacher will be able

determine what level the student should be in and what reading group to place to student.

A student, who is a struggling reader, reads below grade level. Most of the

textbooks I certain areas are of grade level. The struggling reader experiences there
