Too Much Pressure



“Two Kinds” written by the talented Amy Tan, is about a young girl who is relentlessly pressured by her mother to be successful. Although she is a young girl, Jing-Mei and her mother have a rocky relationship. “You can be best anything,” (Tan 179) was the attitude that her mother possessed about her daughters talents. Jing-Mei was a young normal Chinese girl, and wanted to stay that way, despite her mothers efforts to have her realize her talents. Jing-Mei could not hold up under all the pressure from her mother, and in time began to let it bother her. “In fact, in the beginning, I was just as excited as my mother, maybe even more so.” (Tan 179) She was just as excited, but after time passed she began to see that all of her mothers activities were either too hard or not very interesting.
