Toni Morrisons: The Bluest Eye

In this paper I will discuss the issue of African American men’s portrayal in Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye. I will talk about the issues of how Morrison’s book perpetuates curtain stereotypes and also provides negative images of African American men. I will also go into the discussion of how after perpetuating men in such a negative light, how her book doesn’t challenge the negative stereotypes she presented. I will draw on specific examples as to my opinions of the book to support my view.
For as long as I can remember African Americans have been portrayed in a negative light, from being disobedient violent slaves, thought of as nothing more than savage beasts of the early days of slavery, to the present violet crazed nymphomaniac they are portrayed to be today.
