The DEATH of IVAN ILYICH
The falseness of relationships and the self-interest placed on the self are
mercilessly satirize by Leo Tolstoy in The Death of Ivan Ilyich. Ivan Ilyich finds himself
living in a world of false appearances. His whole life has been spent doing what’s right in
the eyes of society. His wife, his family and his friends only care about themselves. Only
a few moments before his death does Ivan Ilyich finally realize the truth, that his whole
life has been a lie. Everything he though that was right ultimately proves to be wrong.
Only through his painful death does Ivan Ilyich finally discover truth.
