To Kill a Mockingbird
In the novel ¡§To Kill a Mockingbird¡¨ by Harper Lee. The important themes of this novel were fairness and treating everybody equally. One of the important characters in the novel was Atticus Finch who showed the true fairness and equality which could be seen from the way he teaches his children Jem and Scout and through defending Tom Robinson¡¦s case.

Atticus¡¦s housemaid Calpurnia was a black. In the novel, racisim was a strong issue, black people were classified(stereotyped) as a lower class and whites believed themselves are more superior, therefore it was wrong(iniquitous) in the first place to have Calpurnia as a housemaid. Atticus did not care(resent) what other people thought of him. He believed that Calpurnia will take good care of his children because Calpurnia herself believed in equality.
