to build a fire

The short story “To Build a Fire” by Jack London possesses many internal and external conflicts which create dramatic tension throughout the story. The main character has such conflicts as man vs. nature, man vs. himself, and man vs. animal. In the main body of this paper I will explain how the character in the story faces these conflicts. I will also explain how the conflicts develop in the beginning of the story, how they continue through the middle and how the conflicts end.
One conflict that develops from the beginning of the story and stays constant through out the story is man vs. nature. In this conflict the main character is battling the cold weather and the environment. He states in the beginning of the story that the trail he is following to camp “Lay a mile wide hidden under three feet of ice and on top of that three feet of snow.” (Page 561) There was an absence of sun and it was tremendously cold.
