Title IX

Title IX says “No person in the U.S., shall on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance”(Joplin 1). Title IX has three compliances to it. First, male or female students that are participating in athletics are participating in numbers proportional to their enrollment. Secondly, the school had a history of expanding opportunities for the underrepresented sex, whether it is male or female. Lastly, the school’s athletic offerings fully meet the interest and abilities of the underrepresented sex. Title IX protects students, faculty, and staff in federally funded education programs. The law applies to elementary, high school, college, and universities (Empowering women in sports 1).
