Although this passage from the book is not very long, I believe that it says a great deal about the novel. This book, written by Kurt Vonnegut, is a complex reality that takes you through, what Kurt calls, a Timequake. He describes this as a sudden glitch in the space time continuum. What happened was that the universe had a second thought of whether or not to keep expanding forever, so what it did was shrink 10 years back to 1991. When it shrunk, everyone went back to the year 1991. They had no choice but to repeat the last ten years they just lived through. For many people it was agony, and as Vonnegut goes on in the book, he tells stories of people who lived through this and how everything changed after the timequake was over.
