The girls were still thought of as threats to Trujillo and the government, although they had begun to distance themselves from the movement. Trujillo thought their deaths would set a good example for other followers of the Mirabal sisters.
Dede wasn’t sought by the military because she didn’t have as prominent role in the revolution as her did. Also, when Dede finally got up the courage join, it was already in a way, too late. Great damage had already been done and the other Mirabal sisters were already drifting away from the revolution. Dede now tells the story of her sisters so people know exactly what was going on during the reign of Trujillo.
