Thus I Refute Beelzy

In literature many feelings can be inflicted upon certain characters. Some of those feelings can be good, while others bad. John Collier’s short story Thus I Refute Beelzy shows several incidences like this. In the very beginning of this story we meet a little boy named Simon, and soon after that we meet his father, Mr. Carter. Simon and Mr. Carter both share the first name Simon, so each one calls the other Big Simon and Small Simon. With every story having a conflict, it is easy to say that Mr. Carter arises as that in this story. While Small Simon is the main character of the story, Mr. Carter has a significant impact on Small Simon and the ending. By the end of the story, it can be concluded that Mr. Carter’s shortcomings as a parent contribute to his failure as a father to Small Simon.

Mr. Carter thinks that he is being a friend to his son, but he is not a friend or a father. Mr. Carter feels that by calling Simon Small Simon, and having Small Simon call him B...
