Through the effective use of literary and rhetorical devices, the three literary works show the ideals from fairy tales are less favourable for today’’s society.

As a child, children learn about their culture’’s ideals of life through fairy tales and fables; ideals about love, relationships and expectations. When looking at modern literature, the ideals from fairy tales and fable are less prominent. Alice Major’’s "Puce Fairy Tale", a poem about disproving the fairy tale expectations in relationship. June Callwood’’s "Forget Prince Charming" an essay about dispelling the fairy tale belief of the perfect mate. James Harrison’’s "Cinderella/from Eve’’s Version" a poem which disproves the fairy tale way of life, the opposite to what is hoped. With the Author’’s modern perspectives, the ideals expressed in fairy tales seem flawed.
