Through his poems Dawe challenges us to rethink our ideas on many aspect of life. Do you agree?

The power of poetry and the effects it may cause to its readers can be great and can make them rethink their view on life. In the poetry within the book ‘sometimes gladness’, Bruce Dawe explains his personal view on the many aspects of life throughout many poems which were written before, during and after the cold war between Russia and USA and the Vietnam war which involved Australia. Dawe’s poetry reminds readers about the good and bad parts of life, allows them to relate their issues to his and allows the reader to rethink many aspects of life that they may have a one-sided opinion on. The poetry can make us rethink common and idealized issues within life such as relationships, loss, grief, suffering, racism and many more relative issues that may impact the reader and convey them to reminisce upon past experiences.
