Thoughtless Entertainment

“First, I’ll pick her up from her house, meet her parents, eat at the most expensive place in town, and then go see a movie”. That’s my way of showing the world I am a gentlemen. The process for a date is effortless; picking a restaurant is easy, choosing the movie is easy (meeting her parents is rough). Some make going on a date hard, especially when they have to pick the movie. Recently I read two essay’s in class, “A Century of Cinema” by Susan Sontag, and “Going to the Movies” by Susan Allen Toth. Both authors identify what they look for in a movie. Warning: their thoughtful, attentive, and wisdom minds think too much when choosing a movie. Are we going to the movies to escape from reality or learn something?
Sontag believes that cinema culture today has declined because people are leaving the movies not learning anything, moderately they are “loosing themselves” in the film. This meaning that movies no longer provide life’s lessons like it use...
