Thomas Hobbes was born April 5, 1588 in Westpoint, Malmesbury. Hobbes lived a leisured and sheltered life as a child. Jos edicatopm was provided for by a uncle, a solid tradesman and alderman of Malmesbury. By the age of fifteen he was already a good Latin and Greek scholar.
He was one of the first modern Western thinkers to provide a secular justification for the political state. Hobbes laid the foundations of modern sociology by applying mechanistic principles in an attempt to explain human motivation and social organization.
