Theorists and their ideas of the basic needs of adulthood

There is a marked diversity in the needs for the development of adults. They are characterized by two basic needs; intimacy and generativity. Intimacy may be achieved through friendships and love relationships and a satisfying job or becoming a parent can generally achieve the second, which is generativity.
Maslow said that after the basic needs for survival and substance are met then adults seek love and belonging, and then success and self-esteem.
