Themes of Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter possesses many aspects that carry a certain relevance to today’s culture. However, many of its themes have lost some of their importance with time. Many major themes of the novel such as corruption and family life still have significance at this time, but certain topics like superstition and the divinity of leaders do not hold as much weight as they did.
The corruption of humanity, a theme that applies to all time and major part of The Scarlet Letter has a relevance that applies to today‘s lifestyle and culture. Roger Chillingworth, a man who turns his back on his sense of compassion and becomes fully consumed by hate, personifies corruption in the novel. The sense of corruption in the book can relate to this society because all people know how it feels to be jealous and seeking revenge, the only difference being Chillingworth becomes fully devoted vengeance and it outweighs any good in his heart.
