Theme of Kitchen God's Wife Amy Tans biggest theme was the issue of good things happening to those that are “good” people. Even though good people may endure suffering before being rewarded with life’s treasures. This is was Amy Tan believes to be fate. In the novel Kitchen God’s Wife, Winnie was a young woman living during World War II. She had no rights and this is because women had little or no rights during this time. She married an abusive man named Win Fu. He was cruel and caused her to abort many of her children. He cheated on her out in the open. Many of his mistresses dwelled in Win Fu’s house and wore the clothes of Winnie. That fact right there had to be mentally abusive, woman were walking around her house wearing her clothes.
