Theme Analysis of Cry the Beloved Country

The major theme of Cry, the Beloved Country is social injustice. Paton uses the novel to show the awfulness of racial injustice and social apartheid. The tribal world has fallen apart due to the racist attitudes of the whites towards the natives. Because the whites refuse to replace the natives’ original way of life, the natives are forced to put up with the less than equal conditions. They become angry with their treatment and this leads to dissension. The natives turn to lives of crime and disregard the laws.
