Their Eyes Were Watching God

The book I chose to do for the book report this marking period was called Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston. The period of time the story took place was in the early 1900’s. The book portrayed almost exactly what southern life was like for blacks at that time. The book took place in the states of Georgia and Florida.
The main character was a strong-willed woman named Janie. Nearly her whole life Janie was always tied down, unable to do her own thing. She was married at young age of about 17, against her will, and there was nothing she could do about it. Janie was very beautiful and this made her the target of a lot of gossip and envy. All the men wanted her, and all the woman wanted to be her.
Her first marriage was to a man named Logan Killicks. Killicks was many years Janie’s senior, and they had little in common. Janie was unable to love and nurture like Logan wanted, and she had no feelings of love for him. Soon...
