The written illusions of a mirrorGabriel Garcia Marquez

Ellis Spears comments on Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s writing style: “the stories of Garcia Marquez raise questions about reality; what it is, what it can become, and whether it is the same for all people.” Marquez’s “A very Old Man with Enormous Wings” raises many questions about reality, but more importantly, his story forces the reader to ask themselves about the reality that surrounds them.
On a bleak Tuesday, a young villager named Pelayo, would come cross a ghastly sight; an old man, covered in mud, “impeded by his enormous wings”. As the young man took the old man to his house, his family “soon overcame their surprise and in the end found him familiar”. They would ask their old neighbor, a very wise woman, to take a look at him. “He’s an angel,” she told them. With that, Marquez would open up the door to a variety of questions which the reader themselves must ask.
An angel has fallen to earth, but he was not shrouded with a beacon of light....
