The window

The window poses several motifs in the short story,“The Tree’’. Throughout the story, you’ll notice that Brigida pays a visit to the window every now and then, but what compels her to do so? And is the window just an ordinary window or does it have some hidden meanings behind it? Well, my objective for this essay is to elaborate more upon her intentions, and emphasize on the significance of the window.

With absoluteness, the window depicts itself as an imaginary friend of hers. It acts as a shoulder to lean on for consolation whenever she felt neglected by her husband Luis. Every time she seeks for attachment, she would unceasingly get struck with the same response, “I’m busy. I can’t accompany you.. I have a lot to do.” (p.28) This of course, aggravates Birgida.
