The Value of Higher Education in the New Millennium

There was once a time when people, more specifically blacks, thought that a high school diploma was a major accomplishment, and that it would be enough to supply the needs that they would encounter in the future. As time has progressed, however, minorities have realized, in large numbers, that an education is the foundation of the future. A recent study, released by the American Council on Education’s (ACE) Office of Minorities in Higher Education (OMHE), has shown that number of African Americans that pursue higher education has increased to 38%.
It is in these large numbers that African Americans are beginning to realize that higher education is the unquestionable necessity when bettering our culture and ourselves. We are also beginning to understand that seeking higher education is an opportunity to prepare for a well paying job while realizing family dreams, and learning about ourselves in the process.
