The Transformation of Prejudices Due to Our Popular Culture

In our diverse society in which we live in today we have been blessed being able to look at one another as an equal no matter what color skin an individual has. Yet we still face prejudices, stereotypes and fears on racial groups we have not completely gotten over. Where did the prejudices come from? In the late eighteenth century and into the mid nineteenth century racial groups in America were treated as outsiders, or those who did not belong in our society. The two groups who faced most of the out casting that took place were blacks and orientals. With white people making up the majority of the population at the time through the use of media whites were able to manipulate others through songs, cartoons and minstrel shows damaging the reputation of these two groups and causing a public policy epidemic.
