The Things they Carried, Speech

The year is 1969 and there is a war going on in the background of everyday life. My name is Katie. I am only 19 years old and have been out of high school for about a year. I am planning to go collage and study the arts. They recently did a draft for the war and my birthday happened to be in the top 25. Many people, still just children, are becoming drafted along with me. We’re all wonder the same thing, what we should do: go and fight, run from fear, or stay and protest.
I choose not to run to Canada like a coward. I also choose not to go and fight in Vietnam. I am sure it would be great for one to fight for ones country, but this is not what I want to do.
